Netflix has released the official trailer for a new documentary about influential music industry exec Clarence Avant entitled ‘The Black Godfather,’ which is set to release this Summer.
Avant, known as a music industry guru, has guided Grammy award winners, heavyweight boxing champs, presidents, and Hall of Famers to success and formed a long list of star-studded admirers along the way.
Oscar-winning director Reginald Hudlin is responsible for the doc, which includes commentary and remarks on Avant’s legacy from Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Snoop Dogg, Jim Brown, Jamie Foxx, Diddy, Quincy Jones, Cicely Tyson and more.
The story shares Avant’s experiences during the Jim Crow era and his crucial contributions to help revive the Stax and Motown record labels. His current work as an adviser to Babyface and L.A. Reid is also discussed in the documentary.
‘The Black Godfather’ hits Netflix and select theaters June 7th. The streaming service says viewers will see how Avant was moved “by a sense of equality, loyalty, and justice” that ultimately made him into the powerhouse figure he’s known as today.
