Netflix is doubling down on young love. The streamer has officially renewed Forever—its new YA series—for a second season, just one week after the show premiered on May 8.
Based on Judy Blume’s classic 1975 novel and reimagined for today’s generation, Forever stars Michael Cooper Jr. as Justin Edwards and Lovie Simone as Keisha Clark, two teens navigating the highs and heartbreaks of first love. The series, developed by acclaimed showrunner Mara Brock Akil, follows Justin and Keisha as they reconnect years after childhood and fall deeply for one another while balancing the pressures of high school, sports, and prepping for college.
The renewal comes on the heels of a strong audience response and an emotional first season that resonated with longtime Blume fans and new viewers alike.
Alongside Simone and Cooper Jr., the cast features Xosha Roquemore as Keisha’s mother Shelly, Karen Pittman as Justin’s mother Dawn, and Wood Harris as his father Eric. Niles Fitch plays Darius, Justin’s close friend. The ensemble also includes appearances from Marvin Winans III, Barry Shabaka Henley, Adriyan Rae, Paigion Walker, and more.
The series is executive produced by Judy Blume, Mara Brock Akil, Regina King, Reina King, Erika Harrison, Susie Fitzgerald, Sara White, Shana C. Waterman, and Anthony Hemingway.
Season 1 is streaming now on Netflix. Season 2 does not yet have a release date.
