In January, WWE and Netflix announced a ten-year, multi-billion-dollar deal to bring the longest-running weekly show on television, Monday Night Raw, to the streaming platform. The $5 billion deal will take effect in January. Thursday. Netflix revealed that on September 25th, they will release a six-part documentary highlighting the rise and fall of former WWE CEO Vince McMahon.

The streaming service has carved out a strong niche for sports docuseries, improving with each release. Vince McMahon became a dominant figure in the professional wrestling industry after buying the WWF from his father in 1982. Defying his father’s wishes, he took the World Wrestling Federation national, transforming the landscape of professional wrestling. Before McMahon’s expansion, wrestling was divided into regional territories, but he changed the game by poaching the best talent worldwide, offering more money than his competitors.

Many wrestling companies have tried to compete, but none have matched the success, longevity, or popularity that McMahon’s WWE has achieved. The documentary will feature interviews with the former CEO before he stepped down from the company, along with insights from former wrestlers, family members, employees, and creative minds within the organization. They will share their thoughts and opinions on the current state of WWE.

This docuseries will cover both the rise and fall of McMahon and will feature the journalist who broke the news on the former CEO’s alleged sex trafficking case. The project is produced by Chris Smith, the executive producer of Tiger King, and Bill Simmons. With this dynamic duo behind it, the story promises to be compelling.
