Netflix is teaming up with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson to produce a docuseries exploring the serious criminal charges and allegations surrounding Sean “Diddy” Combs. Directed by Alexandria Stapleton, the series will delve into accusations of sex trafficking, racketeering, and assault that have surfaced against the hip-hop mogul in recent months.
“This is a story with significant human impact. It spans decades and goes beyond just the headlines,” 50 Cent and Stapleton told Variety in a joint statement. The project aims to give a voice to survivors while shedding light on the complex and dark side of the music industry. The producers also emphasized that while these allegations are disturbing, Diddy’s story is not representative of hip-hop culture as a whole.
The docuseries comes after a wave of lawsuits against Combs, beginning with a high-profile case filed by ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, which was quickly settled. Since then, four additional women have come forward with claims ranging from sexual assault to verbal abuse. Combs was recently arrested in New York and charged with racketeering, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He remains in custody after being denied bail.
50 Cent first announced his G-Unit production involvement in early December, just as Combs’ legal troubles were intensifying. The rapper shared a video on social media of former Bad Boy artist Mark Curry, who alleged that Combs would spike champagne at his parties, a claim that 50 Cent has continued to highlight.
In addition to the criminal charges, more lawsuits have emerged. These include allegations from a former employee, Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, who claims Combs made unwanted sexual advances and forced him to hire sex workers. The lawsuits also extend to incidents involving Combs’ son, Christian “King” Combs, and former associates, all painting a troubling picture of the star’s conduct.
In May, a video leaked showing Combs physically assaulting Cassie in a hotel, to which he later admitted fault. However, Combs has largely denied the accusations against him, insisting that these allegations are part of an attempt to tarnish his legacy.
Proceeds from the upcoming docuseries will be used to support victims of sexual assault.
