Netflix Unveils New Popcorn Line Exclusively At Walmart

Netflix Unveils New Popcorn Line

There’s a new popcorn in town for your next movie night, and we have Netflix to thank.

Earlier this week, the streaming giant announced its Now Popping brand in collaboration with Popcorn Indiana. The inaugural kernel flavors include “Cult Classic Cheddar Kettle” and “Swoonworthy Cinnamon Kettle.”

Netflix-branded 8-ounce bags are now available at Walmart stores across the country. Each bag costs roughly $4.49. Though entering the food industry seems like an unconventional choice for Netflix, it could mean that the company is looking to compete with AMC Theaters in more ways than one.

The cinema staple has its own line of popcorn, which was launched in 2021. However, the adored movie snack is likely a small part of Netflix’s broader strategy to compete with AMC. The streamer recently announced plans to build two massive entertainment complexes in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, and Dallas, Texas. They’ll both include shopping venues, restaurants, and even interactive activities inspired by some of Netflix’s original productions, such as “Bridgerton,” “Stranger Things” and “Squid Game.” These complexes will be known as Netflix Houses. AMC took a hit during the pandemic due to at-home restrictions preventing customers from visiting theaters. Additionally, many production companies began debuting films on streaming platforms. Therefore, AMC is still working to return to its pre-pandemic numbers. This could allow Netflix to lure AMC patrons by incorporating branded theaters into their entertainment centers.

For now, the two will duke it out on grocery store shelves with their rivaling popcorn labels available now.
