Last week, “Empire” star Jussie Smollett fell victim to a brutal attack in Chicago, in what officials are calling a possible hate crime.
Although, at first, details were unclear and inconsistent, Smollett cleared up a few rumors in his return to the stage over the weekend. But now, according to ABC News, even more distressing details have emerged about the racist, anti-gay incident.
On Monday, Chicago Police Department released an incident report that revealed a 60-year-old friend of Smollett’s called the police, since the actor, himself, “did not want to” though “he believed it to be in the best interest to.”
Upon arrival, according to the report, officials said they found Smollett with stained clothing and “white rope draped around” his neck. The actor then told police the incident occurred around 2 a.m., when two men, hollering racial and homophobic slurs, beat him “about the face” using their hands, feet and teeth as weapons.
“The primary aggressor was wearing a black mask concealing any facial features and both offenders were dressed in black,” the report said. ‘The victim does not remember any other distinguishing features of the offenders, or in which direction they fled.’
In addition, according to the report, Smollett explained that a noose was placed around his neck and an unknown chemical, presumably bleach, was poured on him in the attack, which came a week after he received “hate mail at his place of work.”
In the meantime, although police have obtained new footage from additional security cameras, the attackers remain unknown.
