“New Jack City Live” Gives a Classic a Fresh Set of Eyes on Stages Nationwide

“New Jack City” has been reimagined as a stage play, and some of hip-hop’s greats are gracing the stage to reprise the iconic roles.

The live stage play version of the 1991 film will kick off this Fall. Produced by Je’Caryous Johnson, the rendition will star Big Daddy Kane, Treach of Naughty by Nature, Flex Anderson, and Allen Payne. It appears that Payne is the only member of the original cast coming back for the stage play, returning to his role as Gee Money, while Treach will take on the leading role as Nino Brown.

Debuting on November 4th at The Met in Philadelphia, the traveling show will make multiple stops in cities such as Atlanta, Washington D.C., and more, with the grand finale taking place in St. Louis on February 26th, 2023.

News of “New Jack City Live” first spread last year. The play was initially slated to be released in February of this year but was delayed. However, according to some “New Jack City” fans, it should have been shelved permanently.

However, many enthusiasts of the original movie were overjoyed that the cult classic was getting a fresh spin.

Judging by the popularity of his last play, which was a stage version of “Set It Off,” @jecaryous could absolutely pull off another successful run with “New Jack City Live,” which will revisit some of the most iconic lines and scenes from the original.

Tickets are available now at Jecaryous.com and Livenation.com.
