A New Jersey teacher has been charged with sexually assaulting a student over the course of four years and allegedly having his child, prosecutors revealed this week.
Laura Caron, 34, a 5th-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School in Cape May Court House, was arrested on January 15, 2025. She faces charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities allege that Caron engaged in a sexual relationship with one of her students, beginning in 2016 when the boy was approximately 11 years old. The abuse is said to have continued until 2020, when the victim was 14 or 15. Investigators also disclosed that the student was living at Caron’s home during this period and, on multiple occasions, woke up in Caron’s bed, according to an affidavit of probable cause obtained by NBC Philadelphia.
The investigation began in December 2024, when the victim’s father posted on Facebook, suggesting that Caron’s 5-year-old child resembled both him and his son. The post led to a deeper inquiry, and the victim later admitted in a text message and phone call to family members that he was the child’s father, according to the criminal complaint.
On January 15, law enforcement, including the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, Middle Township Police, and the Special Victims Unit, took Caron into custody without incident. A court-authorized search warrant was also executed at her home.
The Middle Township School District was notified of the allegations and is cooperating fully with the investigation, according to prosecutors. The district is also offering counseling and support services to students, staff, and families impacted by the news.
Caron remains in custody as of Wednesday, awaiting her initial court appearance. It is unclear whether she has retained legal representation to speak on her behalf.
