Multiple complaints had led to New Jersey authorities removing an anti-Hamas billboard.
A billboard along Route 80 in Bergen County, New Jersey, displaying the message “Oh, don’t be naive. Hamas would also behead you,” was recently removed after the police received over 100 complaints about it.
“This anti-Hamas billboard on Route 80 in Bogota borough resulted in more than 100 calls to police before it was taken down by organizers,” Shlomo Schorr, associate director of the New Jersey office of Agudath Israel of America, said.
The billboard is believed to have been set up by a group known as JewBelong. According to their website, their main goal is to confront and speak out against anti-Semitism. They seek to raise awareness and oppose hatred against Jews.
“Our signature pink and white billboards, billboard trucks, website, and strong social media presence powerfully confront antisemitism as well as support Joyous Judaism,” the site reads.
Nevertheless, Bogota police confirmed that they were aware of the sign. However, they found no criminal violations associated with it.
“Our police department works closely with county, state and federal agencies to ensure the safety of our community,” the department said. “There have been no threats to our community and we are investigating the matter to ensure all community members remain safe.”
