Individuals under the age of 18 will now need adult chaperones while visiting New Jersey’s second-largest mall on Friday and Saturday nights.
Due to the disruptive behavior of unruly teenagers on weekends, Garden State Plaza, has introduced a new policy that requires parental guidance. The policy will go into effect on April 28th and will be enforced for minors who visit the mall on Friday and Saturday nights after 5 p.m. and during the holiday season.
“Like many shopping centers across the country, we have experienced an increase in disruptive behavior that violates the center’s code of conduct by a small minority of younger visitors,” the mall’s website says. “Taking this extra step in our security measures will ensure a pleasant and safe environment for our families and every member of our community, as well as our retail partners.”
According to the Paramus mall, unaccompanied minors shopping before 5 p.m. on those two days must either leave the mall by 5 p.m. or be accompanied by a supervising adult “immediately.” The mall has set waiting areas into place for the kids who need to be picked up at 5 p.m.
In addition, the mall says security will be checking ID’s to verify visitor’s age and adults can only accompany four minors at a time. However, the limitation does not apply to kids 10-years-old and younger
The policy is effective throughout the entire mall except the movie theater. Though, restaurants and department stores are allowed to have their own policies and encourages shoppers to inquire about them.
