A new “Karate Kid” movie is in the works, and it will unite key figures who starred in two separate installments of the franchise.
Both Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio will work alongside one another on the forthcoming flick, NBC News reports. Macchio famously starred as Daniel LaRusso in the original “Karate Kid” trilogy, which first debuted in 1984. Chan joined the “Karate Kid” universe during the 2010 remake. Both men will be bringing their roles together, though not much else is known about the plot and other characters.
There have not been any “Karate Kid” movies for a while, but Macchio’s famed character has gotten a spin-off of sorts via the Netflix original “Cobra Kai.” The series has served as a continuation of the Daniel LaRusso character. However, with the show coming to an end after season six, that gives way for the new “Karate Kid.”
“Karate Kid” has been in the works for some time now. Last year, it was first revealed that the film had been given the green light. With the writers and actors strike this year, it was no surprise when the movie was pushed back. Early reports claimed “Karate Kid” would be released on June 7th, 2024. Now, the alternate date is December 13th, 2024.
Sony Pictures is presenting the latest “Karate Kid.” Director Jonathan Entwistle, who worked on movies such as “The Lost Boys,” will collaborate alongside producer Karen Rosenfelt and writer Rob Lieber to bring the production to life.
