New Music Friday has arrived after the long work week, and it did not disappoint, especially with the return of K. Dot.
Kendrick Lamar dropped a surprise mixtape, “GNX,” sending social media into a complete frenzy. The 12-track project kicked off with “Wacced Out Murals,” which addresses Lil Wayne and his Super Bowl halftime show snub comments. On the track, Lamar rapped, “I used to bump Tha Carter 3, I held my Rollie chain proud / Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down. Got the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulate me, all these n***** agitated I’m just glad it’s on they faces.”
Nicki Minaj returned with the 10th anniversary edition of her album, “The Pinkprint.” The album includes three previously unreleased tracks. These are “Turn Ya Cap Back,” featuring Swae Lee, “It’s Okay,” featuring David Guetta, and “Arctic Tundra,” alongside late rapper Juice WRLD. The latter was recorded before his untimely passing in December 2019. It is the second Nicki and Juice WRLD release in days, joining “All Girls Are The Same (Insecure)” last week.
Afrobeats star Wizkid dropped his “Morayo” project, with appearances from Jazmine Sullivan, Asake, and Brent Faiyaz, who is featured on the record “Piece of My Heart.” The track was first introduced in early October, serving as the lead single. The pair also released a luxurious video for the record, which is now at over five million Youtube views.
Classic duo Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre unveiled their single, “Outta Da Blue.” It appears this is from Snoop’s forthcoming album, “Missionary,” due out next month. Singer Alus is also featured on this party tune, which samples MIA’s 2008 hit, “Paper Planes.”
Another hip-hop OG, Ice Cube, released his long-awaited album, “Man Down.” Snoop Dogg, Killer Mike, Too Short, and even Mike Epps joined Cube on his 19-track project. “Man Down” serves as Cube’s first full-length release since 2018’s “Everythang’s Corrupt.”
