New Music Friday has returned, giving us more than enough heat to turn up our playlists and unwind with.
OG rapper Ice Cube is back with a surprise single, “Before Hip-Hop.” While serving as the Big3 CEO and continuing his acting career, Cube found time to remind both his day-one fans and the younger generation that he’s never lost his West Coast flair. Though it’s unclear if “Before Hip-Hop” signals an upcoming album, his contribution to New Music Friday is undoubtedly refreshing.
Ice Spice and Latto surprised fans by linking up for the slick-talking single “Gyatt.” The two have seemingly buried the hatchet after feuding for several years. However, many fans speculate that the women are still taking subliminal shots at one another in their verses. Regardless, they put on a united front during Kai Cenat’s livestream, promoting the song together and putting the cattiness aside to secure the bag.
Miguel continues easing back into the spotlight, dropping his latest single, “New Martyrs,” and reminding us why we missed him. The track follows his April feature on Kilo Kish’s record “Negotiate.” The sultry singer proves he hasn’t missed a beat as he preps for the release of his album “Caos” in October. In true Miguel fashion, the vocals are smooth over a slow electric beat, perfect for a late-night drive.
