23 year old New Orleans Pelicans guard, Bryce Dejean-Jones, has died. The Dallas County coroner’s office confirmed that Jones sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
The former Iowa State player signed a 10 day contract with the Pelicans on January 21. According to Bleacher Report, during his brief stint he appeared in 14 games, making 11 starts, and averaged 5.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. The Pelicans were so impressed by the young, promising star, that they signed him to a three-year contract extension in February.
Details surrounding Jones’ death have not been made available. So far all that is known is that he was shot in the abdomen Friday, and bled to death.
Our condolences to Jones’ family and friends.
