Donald Trump is known for boasting about his “numbers” when it comes to the African-American community, but according to a new Washington Post-Ipsos poll, black folks aren’t rocking with Trump like he is convinced they are.
The survey found that more than eight in ten African Americans believe Donald Trump is racist and has contributed to making racism a larger issue in the U.S. Results also showed that nine in ten black Americans disapprove of Trump’s job performance and a majority 58% say Trump’s actions as president are “very” bad for African-Americans in this country.
According to CNN, Trump pitched himself to black voters during his 2016 campaign by asking, “You’re living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58% of your youth is unemployed — what the hell do you have to lose?”
And let’s not forget when Trump privately referred to some African nations as “s***hole countries” and mocked the NFL protests, which were led by predominantly black NFL players. The 2016 election exit polls found Trump only received 8% of the African-American vote.
According to CNN, the Washington Post-Ipsos poll was conducted online January 2-8, 2020, among a random national sample of 1,088 non-Hispanic black adults age 18 and over.
