New York Pastor Arrested and Charged For Sexually Assaulting His Own Teenage Daughter On Church Grounds

A Brooklyn pastor has been arrested and charged for sexually abusing his 14-year-old daughter over the last six years.

According to Pix 11, Matthew Gibson of Progressive Baptist Church of Brownsville in Bedford-Stuyvesant has been accused of sexually assaulting his daughter inside the church ever since her mother passed away in 2012.

Apparently, the teen shared the secret with her sister-in-law, Miya Maples, last week, and detailed the six years of abuse. However, for the last seven, the young girl’s older brother, and Maples’ husband, had full custody of the girl and her twin brother since their mother’s death. But, their father, Gibson, had been allowed visitation every other weekend, in which they attended his church services – and that’s when the abuse allegedly occurred.

According to Maples, she’d noticed something different about her young sister-in-law upon her return from school last week. When she finally asked the girl what was wrong, Maples said she “blurted out to us” that her father had been raping her.

Although her brother would be at the church when the alleged assaults were taking place, he said his father would distract him with other things.

“He would make me play on the drums, and when it was happening, I wouldn’t be nowhere around,” the brother said. “I feel like, in the moment, I let my sister down.”

According to reports, the girls’ family had been trying to get her father’s visitation revoked over claims of verbal and physical abuse, but they’d always come up short. But on Thursday, the 44-year-old pastor was arrested on charges of criminal sexual abuse and forcible touching of a female victim between the ages of 9 and 14, the publication reports.

In the meantime, the church is shut down as a crime scene.
