Newcomer Maia Kealoha has been announced as the lead in Disney+’s live-action version of Lilo & Stitch. She will play the title character, Lilo, according to Deadline.
The film, which also stars Zach Galifianakis, follows the relationship between Lilo and an alien named Stitch. It has yet to be revealed what role Galifianakis will play.
Dean Fleischer Camp has been tapped to direct the updated version of the 2002 animated Disney hit. The movie was initially set to begin filming in 2020, but that start date was delayed.
This will be Kealoha’s first time in a major film, and she has no other acting credits to her name.
Not much else is known about the live-action Lilo & Stitch. Disney has yet to announce when the movie will make its Disney+ debut.
In the meantime, Peter Pan & Wendy, a live-action remake of the classic animated film, hits the streaming platform later this month. And the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, starring Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy, will debut in theaters starting May 26.
