Court documents obtained by Bleacher Report confirm that a lawsuit against United Airlines was filed on Wednesday in a California Superior Court. An unnamed NFL player listed as John Doe 1 claims he was sexually harassed and assaulted on his February 10 United flight from Los Angeles to Newark, New Jersey.
According to court records, the player filed the suit in coordination with another unknown male passenger, who is listed as John Doe 2. Both allege four complaints were made against a female passenger sitting in the same row for multiple “unwanted sexual advances,” including grabbing the NFL player’s penis and ripping off his protective face mask before flight attendants finally moved the female to another seat.
The lawsuit also claims the middle-aged Caucasian woman was intoxicated and taking prescription pills.
Both victims are described as African American males, and according to Bleacher Report’s Master Tesfatsion, both allege the company failed to adequately respond to their reports of sexual assault and harassment.
The victims’ attorneys Darren Darwish and Benji, have since released a statement regarding the incident, which stated the lawsuit’s goal is to make sure no passengers make complaints in the future that “go unheeded until it’s too late and the damage is done.”
John Doe 1 and John Doe 2 are seeking compensatory and punitive damages.
