Richard Sherman walked hand in hand with his wife to court to plead not guilty to his five charges.
Sherman came to go court with his wife, who was actually the person who called the police on him Wednesday morning.
Prosecutors have charged him with five misdemeanor charges, including a DUI and criminal trespass charge after he allegedly had a meltdown at his in-laws’ home, TMZ reported.
Sherman spoke out about the incident, saying he is “deeply remorseful” for his actions.
“I behaved in a manner I am not proud of,” the NFL star said Friday. “I have been dealing with some personal challenges over the last several months, but that is not an excuse for how I acted.”
“The importance of mental and emotional health is extremely real, and I vow to get the help I need. I appreciate all of the people who have reached out in support of me and my family, including our community here in Seattle.”
Sherman added, “I am grateful to have such an amazing wife, family, and support system to lean on during this time.”
Sherman is accused of driving drunk, wrecking his car, and having a moment of rage at his in-law’s house.
Police also say Sherman tried to break into his wife’s parents’ house violently and when cops responded, they say he became non-cooperative and began fighting them.
They eventually took him down with the help of a police K9 and transported him to jail, where Sherman ultimately spent close to two days before being released without bail.
Sherman is scheduled to be back in court for another hearing next month.
