The National Football League wants to be heard loud and clear.
Another memo doubling down on the league’s efforts to make teams stick to its Covid-19 guidelines was sent out to coaches with a clear message, either adhere to the rules or be ready for the consequences.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the NFL has threatened to suspend coaches or take away their drafts picks for violating its mask mandate.
The memo comes after The Athletic reported several maskless players from the Las Vegas Raiders were seen at a recent charity event sans mask, Yahoo Sports reports.
Raiders head coach Jon Gruden and Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay were fined for not following the mask rules while on the sidelines during games.
The league hopes the threat of suspensions and/or taking away draft picks will make coaches and players think twice.
The NFL is not exempt from COVID-19, as the Tennessee Titans recently had multiple positive tests. And now, Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers has been postponed.
It’s unknown what will happen to some games scheduled in weeks 3 and 4.
The NFL is trying to avoid a season with mass cancellations at all costs.
