Actress Nia Long is breaking her silence about her longtime partner Ime Udoka and his affair with a female Boston Celtics staffer.
In the interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the “Boyz N The Hood” actress slammed the team for making the situation public without considering the effects it may have on her family. She even revealed that she had to remove her 11-year-old son, Kez, from school due to the affair being the topic of conversation.
“I think the most heartbreaking thing about all of this was seeing my son’s face when the Boston Celtics organization decided to make a very private situation public,” Long told the publication. “It was devastating, and it still is. He still has moments where it’s not easy for him.”
Long didn’t go into detail regarding her current relationship status but confirmed that she and her sons plan to move back to California from Boston. Aside from Kez, which she shares with Udoka, Long shares a 21-year-old son with actor Massai Z. Dorsey.
The scandal unfolded in September when the Celtics announced they’d suspend Udoka from his head coaching position. In a statement, they revealed that the 45-year-old violated team policies by having an intimate relationship with a female employee, though her identity has not been positively confirmed.
Shortly after, Udoka apologized to his family, fans, and the Boston Celtics team. He said he accepted the team’s suspension and whatever decision they chose to make about his role as head coach. While they did not formally fire Udoka, they stated they wouldn’t stand in his way if he decided to join another team. Despite the backlash, the Brooklyn Nets are eyeing Udoka as their next head coach.
Long also issued a statement thanking fans for their support following the fallout.
