Media maven Nick Cannon is standing by Kevin Hart amid his leave as host of the 2019 Academy Awards following the recycling of old homophobic tweets.
On Tuesday night, TMZ caught up with the “Wild ‘N Out” creator, and he explained why he supports Hart. When asked “When does comedy stop being comedy” Cannon responded, “Man, it never stops being comedy that’s the beauty in it. It’s our job to hold up that mirror to society and Kevin does a great job of it. Chelsea does a great job; Sarah Silverman does a great job, Amy Poehler – everybody.”
Many questioned why Hart didn’t just apologize and use the moment to encourage growth and love towards everyone. Cannon said Hart’s choice was the best move he could have made. “I actually think it was a brilliant move. Because what he did was he didn’t allow the Academy to control him. He apologized anyway, but he let them know that no job was more important than standing firm on what he believes, and then he still apologized to anybody that he offended,” Cannon said.
Cannon then explained why thinks the world has double standards. “It’s the world that we live in. I’m going to college for it right now because if I broke it down to you, you would need a lot more time. But we live in a very corrupt organization called the United States of America.”
