Priyanka Chopra and husband Nick Jonas welcomed their first baby, the couple revealed in a joint statement.
“We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate,” the couple wrote in a note posted to Nick’s Instagram on Friday, January 21. “We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much.”
The Jonas Brothers musician and “The Matrix” actress addressed the topic of having children during the Netflix special “Jonas Brothers Family Roast” in November of 2022.
Priyanka acknowledged that the two were the only couple who didn’t have kids yet, in reference to Nick’s brothers Joe and Kevin Jonas. “Which is why I’m excited to make this announcement. Nick and I are expecting… to get drunk tonight and sleep in tomorrow,” the actress joked.
Although it was all fun and games for the family roast, it appears the two were thinking of starting a family together in early 2021.
During the Jonas Brother Family Roast, Chopra also joked about the age difference between her and her husband. The two have a ten-year age gap, in which Chopra says she has to explain “many 90’s pop culture referenced he doesn’t understand.”
The 29-year-old also said her husband shows her how to use TikTok and that they both find ways to “teach each other.”
The star couple met at the Vanity Fair Oscars party in February 2017. They had been texting for a few months before meeting, so they both knew they had chemistry, they told Vanity Fair in 2020.
Before they were a couple, they walked the red carpet together in Ralph Lauren at the Met Gala the same year they met in person.
They didn’t see each other for an entire year following their red carpet appearance at fashion’s biggest night, Chopra told previously told, Jimmy Fallon. Our lives were kind of taking us different places,” she said. “And the thing is that was funny is people would ask us, both in an interview setting and in private, ‘Are you guys seeing each other?’ and the answer was no.”
During Memorial Day Weekend in 2018, the two spent their time dating, and by the end of the weekend, they were an item. “They are dating, and it’s brand new.” an insider told US Weekly at the time. “It’s a good match, and they are both interested in each other.
In July, the same year, Nick proposed to Pri during a trip to Crete for her birthday, and on December 1, the happy couple tied the not with family and friends during a lavish multi-day wedding celebration. The wedding was held in India at the Umaid Bhawan Palace and incorporated both Hindu and Christian ceremonies.
Nick Jonas is the baby of the Jonas Brothers and the last to have a child. Maybe they’ll be more Jonas baby’s on the way. We’ll just have to wait and see.
