A Nickelodeon actress broke down in tears in a video announcing she is taking a break from social media. Lindsey Shaw received a ton of backlash for a video made showing her mock Black creators on TikTok.
The Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide’s star said she received many hateful comments in her inbox about a reaction video she posted. Throughout the video, she is tearful, revealing she is overwhelmed by the backlash.
The clip in question sees the actress mocking a new dance trend on the app, which many users felt was directed toward Black creators. In her TikTok, she mockingly asks, “Hey, are we okay? What the f*ck is this?” After asking the question, she imitates the video.
“I am learning every day as I think everybody is,” Shaw said. “And this kind of hate needs to evaporate from the planet no matter who it’s directed towards,” she said in the follow-up video.
Shaw explained that she felt like she was poking fun at the “Millennial, Gen Z thing” on TikTok and that she never meant to offend anyone. Through her tears, she apologizes and says she’ll return to social media at a later time.
