Tired of hearing the popular children’s song “Baby Shark”? Well, get ready to hear it some more because Nickelodeon has created a show inspired by the hit single.
On Wednesday, Nickelodeon announced it made a deal with SmartStudy, the entertainment company behind Pinkfong— who made “Baby Shark” into a mega sensation, to adapt the concept into a show. After much success, the song eventually became an entire YouTube series, that detailed the story of a family of sharks – baby, mommy, daddy, grandma, and grandpa—who kids hunt and then run away from.
Ramsey Naito, Executive Vice President of Nickelodeon Animation, said it was a business move he knew he had to capitalize on. The song was one of the 10 most-viewed videos on YouTube ever with more than 2.8 billion views and a 20-week run on the Billboard Top 100 chart. “At the heart of any popular piece of content is a terrific character, and we have a great opportunity to further explore the world of Baby Shark and follow this family through some great animated adventures on Nickelodeon,” Naito said in a statement to USA TODAY.
The network has yet to announce when the show will air but has moved forward on all production of Baby Shark merchandise.
