Nickelodeon’s reboot of iconic story-telling series ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’ is still in the works, on schedule for an October premiere. Sam Ashe Arnold, Miya Cech, Tamara Smart, Jeremy Taylor, Lyliana Wray, and Rafael Casal are all set to star in the limited series, which is slated just in time for Halloween.
According to Deadline, the three-episode, hourlong limited series will introduce an entirely new group of kids, called “The Midnight Society,” who tell the terrifying tale about the Carnival of Doom, only to have the events of the story come to life.
Nickelodeon’s original ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’ series was like no-other, exploring a new genre of entertainment for kids. Created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel, the series originally aired on Nickelodeon from 1992 to 1996 and again from 1999-2000, as well as on YTV in Canada.
The series revival was first announced in February as part of Nickelodeon’s upcoming slew of show reboots, to include “All That” and “Spongebob.” The network said in a statement “the miniseries will coincide with the upcoming Are You Afraid of the Dark? theatrical movie from Paramount Pictures, Paramount Players’ and Nickelodeon Movies, in theaters October 2019.” Unfortunately, the movie has since been pushed back from its October 11 release date and is expected to debut later following some behind-the-scene changes.
Hopefully, they get it right before Halloween…it only makes sense!
