Back in the day, Nickelodeon actually played cartoons and had some pretty dope live audience shows as well. One of the network’s greatest works in TV was the sketch comedy show for kids, All That, which introduced us to stars like Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell, Lori Beth Denberg, Amanda Bynes, Nick Cannon, and more. Back then, Brian Robbins was a producer on the show. Today, Brian is the Head of Production and he has made it one of his objectives to bring the beloved show back to Nick.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Robbins expressed that the teenage comedy sketch show should have never been canceled in the first place. He said, “I was actually at #SaturdayNightLive this weekend in New York with #KenanThompson, who grew up on All That and Kenan & Kel. It was my first time seeing him on the show and I really wanted to cry. I was so proud. I’ve known the kid since he’s 14 years old. All That ran for ten years. I would’ve never, ever, ever canceled the show. It should’ve been [Nickelodeon’s] Saturday Night Live. All That was a very sophisticated show. Young humor, but the level of comedy on that show was sophisticated.”
When asked if he would be likely to revive the show, his answer was pretty promising, “Don’t be surprised. Don’t be surprised.”
Possibly the best part of “All That” was it being the host of programming on Nickelodeon that shined an appropriate light on hip-hop culture in the mainstream.
Of course, the theme song was recorded by TLC and at the end of every episode, the show featured special musical guests from mostly R&B and Hip-Hop artists such as Aaliyah, LL Cool J, Mya, Destiny’s Child, and OutKast.
As iconic as “All That” was, are you here for a reboot? Or should we continue to let the show’s legacy live on through syndication? Speak on it!
