Yesterday Safaree Samuels dropped a song titled “Love The Most” in which he opened up about his past relationship with Nicki Minaj. In the song he briefly touched on life before the fame, then talks about things changing after Nicki Minaj blew and how she inevitably ended up with Meek Mill. Some took it as a diss, some took it as as vent song. Either way, Nicki Minaj wasn’t here for it and wanted to set the record straight.
In the wee hours of the morning, an obviously irritated Nicki took to Twitter to address Safaree and the song in question. “Don’t make me do this,” she tweeted. “Lesson: don’t cheat on a loyal woman. God will punish u. When he does, tell people the truth. The truth may set u free. Love. Always. Took a person with me to fame & fortune. These dudes leave their girl in the hood. Tell ppl the truth or you will be doomed. God gave me a good heart. I always let ppl get over on me way too long. But that’s why I’m blessed. I’ll always b blessed. May God keep u. Enough with the pity party. Just live your life. I’m happy today not b/c of meek. But b/c i know Im a good person. Don’t hate u. Will always love u. I forgive u. It’s time to move on. And just for the record, I’m in love with meek. Lol and now I have a huge smile on my face. Making a 12 yr relationship work at such young ages? We’re BOTH the real MVP. things got rocky at the end but we had a GREAT run. Enough with the pity party. Just live your life. I’m happy today not b/c of meek. But b/c i know Im a good person. Don’t hate u. Will always love u. I forgive u. It’s time to move on. ” Nicki also makes it known that she’s very much happy and in love with Meek, then went on to talk about them building a community center together.
Here are my feelings on the issue, many won’t feel the same. I’ve always felt that most men (not all, but most) can’t truly handle their woman being bigger than them and that’s what I think happened in this case with Safaree and Nicki. They started off on level ground and Nicki was the one to blow — and rightfully so, she’s hella talented. I don’t understand his gripe about being in the background, however. Not everyone can be the star and there’s nothing wrong with playing the supporting role. Hell, Jennifer Hudson and Lupita Nyong’o won Oscars in their supporting roles, why can’t your man do it? Isn’t that what millions of basketball wives, actor, rapper and football wives have been doing for years? Why is it when a man is asked to play his position and let his woman be a “sex symbol” it’s a hard job, yet women are expected to know it comes with the territory.
Honestly, I never considered Safaree a “secret” anyway. To be fair, he was on every red carpet with her, every picture, every tour and in several videos. Every one knew who he was to Nicki, whether or not she verbalized it. She showed off the ring he got her on Instagram and even showed off their vacation together. He had everything but her verbally getting on television and saying “this is my boyfriend”… but then she dropped a song “Super Bass” which is pretty much all about him, hence the initials S.B.
So, what’s the problem? She gave him writing and exec. producing credits on her album to make sure he was set for life financially. She gave him a place in her company, and he’s complaining about a fake music video kiss she did with Nas? That kiss looked like a peck between brother and sister. I’m with Nicki on this one, move on SB. From what I see, it wasn’t THAT bad. Then again, I don’t know what happened behind closed doors. I’m just making an observation based on some of his complaints, which seem pretty invalid from here.
