Nicki Minaj’s 2009 mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty was made available for the first time on streaming platforms this morning. The re-release included a few new songs, including “Seeing Green,” featuring Drake and Lil Wayne.
In honor of the occasion, Drake appeared on her Instagram Live, and the two got real while expressing how they meant to each other.
After Nicki revealed that Drake had approached her to rap on one of her songs, “Seeing Green,” Drake responded, “it didn’t feel right with you not being on it—that’s really the best way I could put it. You know I had some real heart-to-heart with you lately just about, that it’s your world, nobody does this sh*t better than you.”
Drake admitted that he understood that she recently had different “priorities” as a result of her welcoming a son in September with husband Kenneth Petty. He said, “We really miss your presence and just the bars. We miss the excitement that you bring.”
Nicki then joked that Drake has been promising to visit her home for the past two weeks but has yet to do so. She eventually responded to his heartfelt message with her own.
“On the real sh*t, I love you so much, Drake.” She explained to fans, “He singlehandedly got me out of my writer’s block, and I’m never gonna forget it, and I’m gonna shout it to the f*cking world from the mountain tops.” She added, “He’s a f*cking genius, as a musical artist but also just as a human.”
Drake replied, “I love you with all my heart,” while encouraging her to continue to drop new music.
