Nicki Minaj appeared on The Ellen Show Thursday, where she played it coy regarding her ‘relationship’ with Meek Mill.
During the show, Ellen couldn’t help eyeing Nicki’s hands in search of an engagement ring. If you recall, Meek Mill gifted Nicki with two rings over the last year. Nicki set the record straight on the rings, making sure the world knew that they were not engagement rings of any sort. “First of all, that’s not an engagement ring,” Nicki tells Ellen. “I have two rings from my……from this boy that likes me. He said that that’s my second ring and that if I get a third ring that that would be the engagement ring.”
When asked if Nicki wants to be engaged, she answers, “You know what, I don’t know. We’re still figuring each other out and in fact I don’t even want to say I’m in a relationship anymore because I think when people hear that they go to the mean place.”
She then uses her previous relationship as an example of how and why she would say she was single in an attempt to shield her relationship from the public.
“You know, I used to say I wasn’t in a relationship, even though I was in a 12 year relationship. Now, I feel like just going back to that and saying, you know what, ‘I’m single.’ For instance, Valentine’s Day passed and I didn’t post my gifts on Instagram and people said, ‘they’re not together,’ and we were getting anonymous messages saying I wasn’t with him and I was crying all day, meanwhile we were really in bed all day. It just made me realize that no matter how great your life is, you can’t even impress people, you just have to do you and make yourself happy. Forget about trying to get everyone’s approval.”
It may be pretty hard for Nicki to go back to keeping her relationship private with the ‘I’m Single’ thing, considering she and Meek have made their relationship extremely public. When deciding how much of your relationship you want to share with the outside world, it’s always best to make that decision in the beginning.
