Nicki Minaj’s husband may have to face serious jail time after failing to register as a sexual offender in California.
TMZ reported that prosecutors believe six months in jail followed by supervised release isn’t a suitable punishment for Kenneth Petty, who pleaded guilty to the offense. They make it clear that any home confinement he receives as part of his supervised release would take place in a Calabasas mansion that he shares with Nicki which is not their recommended setting he serves his time.
Instead, they request that he serves 15 months in prison, five years supervised release, and pay $55K in retribution.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Petty went down the wrong path because of the lap of luxury.
Prosecutors claim that Petty maintained compliance with his sex offender register papers for nearly 20 years until he moved to California and got with Nicki in 2019.
“Defendant began dating his wife, quit his job, went to Los Angeles, and adopted an affluent lifestyle.”
Prosecutors say that, despite receiving annual warnings for more than 20 years, Petty knew the requirements to register upon leaving N.Y. state.
Petty will be sentenced on July 6.
