After the success of the Nike’s Pro Hijab, which served as an alternative for competitive female Muslim athletes and went on to win General Excellence in the 2017 Innovation By Design Awards, Nike has now debuted a full line of modest swimwear, geared towards Muslim and body-conscious women.
Nike’s design team traveled to Asia and Australia to observe swimwear options for women in these countries. In Asia, they found that women in Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern countries were forced to swim in women’s only pools since there were minimal modest swimwear options that provided full coverage. In Australia, the modest swimwear options that were available to women were found to be heavy in the water, which raised safety concerns. With these observations, Nike was able to create a lightweight, quick-drying, aesthetically appealing option that would not show much skin.
The full line is set to release on February 1st on Nike.com and in retail stores. This includes the Nike Victory Swim Hijab, Nike Victory Full-Coverage Swim Tunic, and Nike Victory Full-Coverage Swim Leggings.
