Nike has remained an advocate for the metaverse and, this time going one step further by introducing a new digital platform into the fictional universe, .Swoosh (pronounced dot “swoosh”).
.Swoosh will be the home of the sportswear brand’s virtual footwear, apparel, and accessories. The robust 3web community will allow users to “gain access to exclusive events, collaborate with Nike designers on virtual products, and even earn royalties from sale on the products,” according to Complex.
“It will be a place where our community can come in and co-create that future with us,” says Ron Faris, GM of Nike Virtual Studios. “You can collect, trade, and flex Nike virtual products. You can go to IRL events with your token-gated virtual creations.”
Nike apparently consulted with RTFKT (pronounced “artifact”), the NFT brand that the company acquired in December, to really get accustomed to the metaverse world.
“We’ve learned a lot from our friends at RTFKT about how to do this right,” says Faris, “and we talk to them weekly about what are the best practices and how we can start to take certain learnings and really broaden them.”
.Swoosh can be accessed through an invite-only digital code and can be viewed on mobile or desktop.
Nike will be selecting which loyal clients will be able to participate with .Swoosh for the very first time. Unlike the SNKRS app, participants will not be able to chat with other users, as it is not a social network.
If you are not lucky enough, you can still join the waitlist. On Friday, users will be able to claim their spot by registering for a domain on .Swoosh.
Nike is not selling any products through .Swoosh just yet, the first virtual collection will drop in January.
