Nike is currently looking into a possible cybersecurity incident following reports that a ransomware organization has targeted the company.
The news first surfaced through Cyber Daily after analysts spotted Nike’s name on a victim list posted by a group known as World Leaks. While the specific nature of the data involved remains under wraps, the emergence of the brand on this list has sparked immediate concern regarding consumer privacy and corporate security.
Hackers from the World Leaks collective have not yet disclosed the volume or type of information they claim to have accessed. Security experts noted that this group previously operated under the name Hunters International. That organization was notorious for running a “double extortion operation,” a tactic where hackers not only encrypt a company’s systems but also steal sensitive data and threaten to publish it unless a significant ransom is paid.
The sneaker giant is not ignoring the threat. Nike confirmed to Complex that they are already on the case and working to determine the extent of the situation. In an official statement, the company emphasized its commitment to protecting its global user base.
“We always take consumer privacy and data security very seriously. We are investigating a potential cybersecurity incident and are actively assessing the situation,” the company stated.
As of now, there is no word on whether the group has issued a specific ransom demand or a deadline for the release of any stolen materials. This potential breach comes at a time when major corporations are increasingly being targeted by sophisticated ransomware gangs looking for high-profile paydays.
Nike has promised to keep the public informed as the investigation continues.
