Manny Pacquiao’s anti-gay remarks have cost him his endorsement with sportswear giant, Nike. The brand released a statement today saying, “We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent. Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community.” They concluded the statement by saying, “We no longer have a relationship with Manny Pacquiao.”
Manny Pacquiao has been a Nike athlete since 2006. In a recent interview on a television show in the Philippines, Pacquiao said that homosexuals were worst than animals. After backlash he quickly took to social media to apologize. “I’m sorry for hurting people by comparing homosexuals to animals. Please forgive me for those I’ve hurt. God Bless!”
Apparently, it is too late. It’s unfortunate because all of his merchandise is manufactured through Nike.Â
