Niko McKnight, a talented singer, guitarist, and photographer, and the estranged son of Brian McKnight, has passed away after a quiet battle with cancer.
His uncle, Claude McKnight, founding member of Take 6, shared the news in a heartfelt video posted to TikTok on Thursday.
“This morning I found out that my nephew, Niko McKnight, passed away. He’d been bravely battling cancer for the past two years or so,” Claude said in the clip. “Niko was one of those amazing kids—quirky, and curious, and ridiculously talented. Amazing singer, amazing guitar player. Had a great eye as a photographer. And one of those kids, at least in my estimation, that you always wanted to be around.”
While Niko was celebrated for his creative gifts and spirit, his relationship with his father, Brian, had been publicly strained.
Brian has faced backlash over the years for distancing himself from his older children. In early 2024, he stirred controversy again by referring to Niko and his siblings, Brian Jr., Brianna, and Clyde, as “products of sin.”
Despite the estrangement, those close to Niko are choosing to celebrate his light, talent, and the legacy he leaves behind.
May he rest in peace.
