The custody battle between Nipsey Hussle’s ex-girlfriend Tanisha Foster and his family has taken a positive turn in recent days.
After years of court litigation, Foster was awarded joint physical and legal custody of her 16-year-old daughter, Emani, whom she shared with the late rapper. This breakthrough came after an agreement with Nipsey’s family, including his brother Sam, sister Samantha, and mother Angelique Smith.
According to the court docs, the deal filed on March 5th allows Foster to share custody of Emani with Sam, who will remain the sole guardian. Foster and Sam agreed that Emani would continue to live part-time with her mom and part-time with her uncle. The deal also ensures that Emani will stay in the same school, and continue her current extracurricular activities, which will help maintain the stable environment she’s grown accustomed to.
Foster had previously petitioned to end the guardianship altogether, accusing Nipsey’s loved ones of using their money and influence to limit her visitation and control Emani’s choices. Foster asserted that there were no reasons preventing her from regaining her role as Emani’s parent.
Foster and Sam will now have equal rights in making decisions for Emani’s future, with her representative stating, “Tanisha reserves her parental rights with respect to Emani.”
The custody battle has been ongoing since Nipsey’s untimely death on March 31st, 2019.
