Nipsey Hussle’s family is keeping the rapper’s passion for helping the youth alive. In the wake of Nipsey Hussle’s death, his family has launched the ‘Neighborhood Nip Foundation,’ with the support of some pretty major partners.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the foundation will continue Nipsey’s efforts in his community, including creating opportunities for young people who are hoping to break into music. The ‘Neighborhood Nip Foundation’ was said to have been inspired by Nipsey’s own involvement in the Watts Towers program.
After Nipsey’s mother recognized that her son had a true passion for creating music, she discovered the Watts Towers program that would provide the then-teenager access to a recording studio, free of charge.
“We used to talk a lot about [what the Watts Towers program] meant to him. A push, a little help can go a long way, and that’s what this foundation will 100% be about,” said Hussle’s brother, Samiel Asghedom. “The foundation will be aligned with everything Nip believed in and what helped him.”
Atlantic Records has already reportedly made a six-figure donation. “They wanted to be the first to donate,” said Asghedom. “It’s important we let people know that.”
Before Nipsey’s death, he was working with PUMA on a collaborative collection with his Marathon Clothing brand. The collection is set to be released September 5, with 100% of net proceeds going to the ‘Neighborhood Nip Foundation.’
Asghedom says that the family is still formulating the foundation’s programming and initiatives, according to the Los Angeles Times.
