The entrepreneur recently sat down for a chat with Power 106’s “Brown Bag Morning Show,” where he shared that a Nipsey documentary and posthumous album are in the works. The production will include multiple episodes based on the late rapper and his mission.
“That’s been a journey, man. Just trying to, like you say, keep it tight. And it’s not for sale…people can’t throw some money at us and tell us it needs to be two episodes or three episodes. Like the creative is not for sale,” Sam explained. “So, we’ve just been kind of like backing away, turning down a lot of offers and just putting our head down and working. And once it’s finished correctly, it’s looking like maybe eight episodes, then we’re going to come out and release it.”
Nipsey released his critically acclaimed album, “Victory Lap” on February 16th, 2018. Sadly, he would be gunned down just a year later on March 31st, 2019 in front of his beloved Marathon Clothing store. Since then, Sam and the rest of their family have worked tirelessly to keep his legacy alive through Marathon’s collaboration with Puma and Marathon Burger. However, Sam explains that the music is still a top priority and wants to be sure his brother’s talent is showcased appropriately. The Los Angeles native confirmed that they would only release music that Nipsey recorded before his death.
“If Hustle didn’t actually do the verse or work with the person or kind of like put together the blueprint for the project, we’re not doing it. He did something with Bino, and there’s a new project that we’re about to release. And this was a project that he had with Bino that was fantastic.”
While the title and other key details are unknown, Sam confirmed that the album is “80% finished” and should be unveiled this summer.
