Nipsey Hussle’s family has been actively searching for a venue large enough to accommodate the massive amount of loved ones and fans expected to attend the rapper’s memorial and decided on the Staples Center in Downtown Los Angeles as the best location.
According to TMZ, the service will take place Thursday morning at the venue, which seats 21,000 people. Only ticket holders will be able to access the service and tickets will be sold through a website. Nipsey’s family, leaders from the Staples Center, and LAPD officials held a meeting to plan logistics and security for the event.
The turnaround for the venue will be extremely quick, as the Clippers have their final game of the regular season the night before. The ushers of the Staples Center have already been asked to reserve the day of Nipsey’s service so they can work.
The “Unity Walk” in L.A. was a defining event in the city’s history. Gangs from all parts of Los Angeles to include Compton, Watts and Inglewood walked the streets of Crenshaw together in respect for Nipsey. A whole stadium won’t even reflect how much Nipsey was admired and respected by all.
Update from Karen Civil on reports of tickets being sold for the memorial:
I want to officially let @NipseyHussle fans & supporters know there will be NO selling of tickets to his funeral. A lot of incorrect information was released today, please know in the upcoming days and official statement will be made soon. ?
