An NJ mother was brutally attacked after she complained to the school officials about three students who threatened her 12-year-old son.Ā
Beronica Ruiz, 35, of Passaic complained to the schoolās vice principal about her son being racially abused and told to āGo back to Mexico.”Ā Thatās when law enforcement officials say the bully decided to plan a revenge attack on Ruiz.Ā
According to the Daily Mail, the day before her attack, Ruiz’s son was taunted in the cafeteria of Passaic Gifted and Talented Academy School No. 20., with chants of āMexicans should go back behind the wall.ā However, when the boy tried to stand up for himself, telling his classmates that everyone comes from immigrants, he was physically threatened.Ā
After school, the boy said his parents he feared for his life and was afraid to return to school. However, when his mother went to the school to intervene, school officials were slow in their response.Ā
According to Ruizā lawyer, Daniel Santiago, the vice principal admitted to the mother that he should have called them but that he had become busy with other matters.Ā
āThat’s a woefully inadequate response,ā Santiago said. āāMy bad’ is not a good excuse for not calling (the parents), not telling them.’ā
To make matters worse, Santiago said that the vice principal also allegedly refused to suspend the student before the attack happened, saying Ruiz that he (the bully) ‘had just as much right to an education as her son.’
But it wasnāt until the boyās father, Alfonso Vasquez, contacted Passaic Mayor Hector Lora about the issue that the teen bully was suspended. Santiago said, and the attack took place soon after his suspension.Ā
Ruiz was hospitalized for two days after the 13-year-old student ā one of three who had been taunting her son ā allegedly attacked her while she was with her younger child and the 12-year-old boy. She was beaten unconscious, suffered a fractured eye socket, bruises and a bloodshot eye that remained red for days after the attack.
Mayor Lora said in a statement: āAs both a father and a husband I am outraged over this incident. As mayor, these are things you wish would never occur in your city or anywhere.ā
The mayor also said the bully has been suspended and will now be charged with assault.Ā
