Federal Prosecutors Won’t File Charges In Death Of Shanquella Robinson

Federal prosecutors will not file charges in the death of Shanquella Robinson, which was announced on Wednesday.

Robinson, 25, died on October 29, 2022, while on a trip with “friends” in Cabo, Mexico.

Questions surrounding the death of the Charlotte native started in late 2022 after a video surfaced on social media of Robinson, who was drunk, and another woman fighting.

While her family was told she died of food poisoning, an autopsy conducted in Mexico said Robinson had died from a cracked spine. Charges were later brought against one of her friends.

United States Attorney Dena King and the FBI said there was not enough evidence of wrongdoing in the video in a press release.

“Based on the results of the autopsy and after a careful deliberation and review of the investigative materials by both U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, federal prosecutors informed Ms. Robinson’s family today that the available evidence does not support a federal prosecution.”

The decision comes weeks after Robinson’s family sent a letter to the White House demanding action.
