You meet this really nice guy out at the bar one night. You both hit it off right away, exchange numbers, and can’t wait for the chance to learn more about each other. You’re so excited by the date, you are constantly day dreaming in bliss, trying to figure out your outfits, your hair, your makeup; when your excitement gets interrupted by a text. No big deal, until you realize, it’s a text from him saying “Send me a picture.”
Not, “When are you available”, or “what’s your IG name”, but “Send me a picture”. Fellas, let me tell you something, that text is thee quickest way to get yourself screenshot, dogged in someone’s group chat, and possibly left behind. But, considering someone just texted me asking for a pic less than an hour ago, I can tell you all have no clue how bad it really is. Here are just five of the top reasons, we hate it.
- I have an Instagram, twitter, and Facebook, all of which have a picture of me- so why am I going to send you an exclusive photo? I just met you, you can enjoy the public photos everyone else sees.
- Am I to assume you already forgot what I look like- why else do you want a picture? Is it because you talk to so many females, you need a picture for a reminder? Must be.
- You can send me a picture before you ask- Simple, give what you get.
- A waste of time- The time you used asking for a picture, could have been used to ask for a date, where you’ll see me in person, which means you wont need a picture.
- What are you going to do with it once you have it?- Ok, so let’s say I play along, and send you a picture of myself. What do you do with it? Save it? Send it to Your Friends? Build a Shrine? Too Risky. Again, I just met you so I don’t know.
I know asking for a picture may really be innocent fellas, just something you do when you’re playing the field, but us females aren’t here for it. There are plenty of other ways to see us with dates, facetime, and social media; so if the ceiling of your imagination stops at “send me a picture”, maybe you shouldn’t be playing anyway. So, if you want to stop being laughed at in group chats nationwide, take some initiative, gather what spontaneity you do have, and try a different approach. Us women thank you in advanced.
