While most of us aren’t buying into #RoseanneBarr’s recent pleas for mercy following her racist tweets towards #BarackObama’s former senior advisor #ValerieJarrett, MoNique says she’s standing by her comedy sister.
During an interview with KTLA, Mo’Nique explained that Roseanne referring to Jarrett as an ape doesn’t make her racist. “Roseanne Barr is my sister in comedy, my universal sister. And what I won’t do is throw her away for making a mistake,” she said.
Mon’Nique’s support for the blacklisted celeb goes back to when Roseanne stood up for her when hardly anyone would come on her talk show The Mo’Nique Show. For some time, the program had trouble booking talent because people called it “too black.” However, that didn’t stop Roseanne from making an appearance regardless of the ignorant comments.

“There was a white woman named Roseanne Barr that showed up for me,” she said. “And they didn’t hear the conversation when the cameras wasn’t rolling. …That woman was giving me some beautiful words.”
