Many have been doing everything possible to keep COVID away while one man is doing everything possible to get close to it.
A Brooklyn man turned to social media message boards to ask people to send a picture of their positive COVID test results so he could get out of hosting his visiting family members. He wrote a message on NextDoor, a social media app for neighborhoods and local neighbors to connect and communicate on.
“I need help. I know this is a bizarre request, but I’m looking for a positive COVID test result from within the past few days.”
He added, “You can obscure any identifying info (like your name), but I have relatives coming into town. I told them they couldn’t stay with me, but they already bought a ticket and arrive shortly. I’m hoping that showing a positive COVID result will convince them to stay elsewhere.” Though it was a strange request, looks like his neighbors felt his pain. One even sent a positive test result.
“Here you go.” The Crown Heights resident came to the man’s rescue and sent him an at-home positive result. Other neighbors agreed with the hassle of holiday time and spending unwanted time with imposing relatives.
A neighbor said, “I don’t have one, but I feel this energy and I am rooting for you.” Another one responded, “Unwanted company can be terrible. It’s rude and disrespectful to invade someone’s space.”
Though he was in luck, it turns out a fraudulent COVID diagnosis is illegal according to the law. One Connecticut man is facing prison time after forging a fake positive result to skip a court date.
The recent rise in COVID cases comes after the Omicron variant has been spreading easily among vaccinated and unvaccinated. According to the CDC, the U.S. had record-breaking numbers this past Monday with 441,000 new COVID infections.
Though it includes everyone, unvaccinated people still take up the majority of COVID hospitalizations. The CDC also just shortened the amount days individuals have to quarantine. It went from 14 to 10 to now 5 days. Dr. Anthony Fauci says quarantine was cut in half  for “keeping society running smoothly.”
