New York City Mayor Eric Adams sat down with “drill” rappers to address the violence that has plagued both the genre and the city.
Adams had previously expressed his desire to sit down with notable drill rappers, which he got to do late Tuesday night. Maino, Fivio Foreign, Bleezy, B-Lovee, CEO Slow, and Bucksy Luciano were all in attendance.
Rapper Maino posted a video to his Instagram showing all the rappers sitting at a table with the mayor. “There’s been a lot of talk about drill rap, drill music in New York City, connecting violence with the culture, and I just wanted to create a conversation with the mayor,” he says at the beginning of the video.
Maino says they came together to give the mayor an understanding of drill rap and open up a dialogue and “make things happen.”
“We’re going to roll out something together on the whole conversation, and we’re looking forward to it,” Adams says in the video.
The city has been plagued by gun violence. According to NBC New York, shootings are up 37 percent over this same period last year, with an average of four people shot every day. Up-and-coming drill rappers Tdott Woo and Chii Wittz were murdered in Brooklyn earlier this month.
