After attempting to help a friend with her excessive drinking, New York City resident Tatianna Nazarinova, 31, was reportedly critically stabbed by her roommate, Daria Alyabyeva, 27, in the apartment they shared together. According to PEOPLE, Alyabyeva has now been charged with attempted murder and assault in the incident. Her bond is set at $750,000.
Years prior, the two Russian women lived together in California. However, the living arrangement was short-lived due to Alyabyeva’s problem with drinking. Six years ago, Nazarinova relocated from California to the upper east side of New York City, where she used her apartment to run an Airbnb.
In a phone conversation with New York Daily News, Nazarinova recalled her time with Alyabyeva leading up to the attack.
“I promised myself and my parents and my friends that I’m not gonna deal with this person ever again,” Nazarinova said. “She was acting really really crazy and wild.”
But instead of staying away, in 2019, the roommates reconnected after Nazarinova gave Alyabyeva a place to stay while she got herself together.
“I thought, if not me, then who?” Nazarinova said. “We’re Russians, and we should take care of each other. And honestly, it was a mistake.”
Although Nazarinova was willing to give Alyabyeva a place to stay, she made it clear that her drinking wasn’t allowed.
“I told her, ‘You can’t drink in the house, you can’t go to the liquor store. It’s a rule.'”
In return, Alyabyeva ignored the rule and continued her excessive drinking.
“She would start drinking in the morning,” Nazarinova said. “She would go to the kitchen and grab a coffee cup and pretend she was drinking coffee or tea.”
It became so bad that, in March, Nazarinova was scared for her life after Alyabyeva threatened to stab her, amid being drunk.
Nazarinova claimed, “I had to hide all the knives in the kitchen.”
A month later, on April 19, tensions between the two had peaked.
“I was getting mad,” Nazarinova said. “Emotionally and physically, I can’t stand this.”
Once more, Nazarinova tried to help Alyabyeva but was met with rejection.
She stated, “She was like ‘No, f— it. I just want some whiskey.'”
So, Nazarinova and Alyabyeva agreed that Daria would only drink in her room.
At some point, Nazarinova went downstairs to grab the food that she had ordered. It was then that she noticed a glass of whiskey in the living room. Nazarinova picked up the glass and proceeded to put it in the sink, which caused Alyabyeva to become enraged.
“She had super crazy eyes, I can’t even explain it,” Nazarinova said. “I was like, ‘What’s your problem?’
Without a response, Alyabyeva began attacking Nazarinova with a knife.
“I didn’t realize she had a huge meat knife,” Nazarinova said. “I tried to push her away. It was so fast and dark in the hallway.”
During the midst of Alyabyeva’s attack, Nazarinova realized that she had been stabbed.
“My hip was fountaining blood,” she said. “I was stained in my blood, and she was stained in my blood.”
Nazarinova continued, “I was like ‘Please stop, please stop [..] I saw something coming out of my abdomen, I guess it was my intestine.”
Although Nazarinova pleaded with her roommate Alyabyeva to stop the gruesome act, Alyabyeva refused to listen.
“I said ‘Daria I’m gonna die, call the police!'” Nazarinova said. “And she said ‘No, die b—-.'”
But somehow, Nazarinova then managed to retrieve her phone and call 911. Before the police arrived, Alyabyeva fled the apartment. Nine days after the incident, police apprehended Alyabyeva, while Nazarinova recovered at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Nazarinova had to undergo two surgeries, while also requiring a massive blood transfusion.
“It was mostly muscles and nerves,” she said. “Hopefully, in a few weeks or a few months, I’ll be back to normal.”
No further information has been released at this time.
