Hours after a video went viral of an NYPD cop using an illegal chokehold during an arrest, the cop was suspended without pay, according to authorities.
In the video, three officers were seen pressing down on the man with one cop’s arm around the man’s neck as the other officers attempted to arrest him.

Police Commissioner Dermot Shea released a statement about the incident and the suspension of the officer.
“After a swift investigation by the Internal Affairs Bureau, a police officer involved in a disturbing apparent chokehold incident in Queens has been suspended without pay.”
Shea continued, “While a full investigation is still underway, there is no question in my mind that this immediate action is necessary. We are committed to transparency as this process continues.”
