NYPD Says 1 Officer Stabbed In Neck, 2 Others Shot In Brooklyn; All Three Expected To Survive

According to CBS News New York, the NYPD stated that an officer was stabbed in the neck while two others were shot in Brooklyn on Wednesday night.

All three are expected to have a full recovery. The suspect is currently in critical condition.

Police say that two officers were put on task to prevent looting in the area of Church and Flatbush avenues, in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn.

The man allegedly walked up to the officers around 11:45 p.m., took out a knife and stabbed one of them in the left side of the neck.

Police also reported that he stole a gun from the officers.

Two officers responded after hearing gunshots and were both shot.

“We know that we had a chaotic scene, with a knife recovered, as well. In the ensuing, we had the perpetrator struck multiple times. He is here, and he is in critical condition,” NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said outside Kings County Hospital. “We had two police officers shot in the hand, and we have a third police officer that is stabbed in the neck. All police officers, at this point in time, thank God, are in stable condition and are expected to recover.”

The commissioner also said that 22 shell casings were recovered, and the officers’ body cameras are being reviewed by investigators.

FBI New York’s ADIC William F. Sweeney, JR. released a statement on last night’s attack on the NYPD in Brooklyn that was posted to FBI New York’s Official Twitter account. Sweeney stated, “Last night’s cowardly attack on the NYPD left one officer stabbed and one shot. The FBI New York Office is fully engaged. We respond as if one of our own was attacked, and we will use every federal statute available to hold the perpetrator accountable”.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said that we all have to support each other in moments in history like this, and it was a tough night.

This incident is the second police-involved shooting in the past 24 hours in Brooklyn.

During late Tuesday night, officers shot and killed a reportedly armed shooting suspect in Crown Heights.

These incidents come after peaceful protests in which some turn violent during the later hours, in efforts to fight police brutality after the unjustified death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. However, Wednesday night’s incident has not been linked to any peaceful protests.
