Before a gunman took down two NYPD patrol officers last week, he had another victim no one is talking about. 29 year old Shaneka Thompson from Baltimore was the on-again-off-again girlfriend of the shooter and was shot in the stomach around 5:45am. Shaneka Thompson was an Air Force reserve and works as a health insurance specialist with the Veterans Administration. According to law enforcement, the NYPD gunman shot her for trying to convince him not to shoot himself.
Ismaaiyl Brinsley took a gun to his girlfriend before fleeing to New York and fatally shooting two cops, then himself over the weekend. According to police, Brinsley put a gun to his own head before Thompson talked him out of it, and then shot her. Thompson’s neighbor, Yevette Seay paints a picture of the scene: “I could hear something going on and it wasn’t pleasant. Then I heard some screaming, then she went out onto her balcony and screamed for help,” Seay said. According to Seay, Thompson said: “‘He shot me, I don’t want to die, I don’t want to die.'” Seay said Thompson wanted her to open up her door, but she didn’t know what was going on, so she kept it closed and called 911. She said there was blood all over the carpet in the hallway. Seay said police arrived in about seven or eight minutes.
Shaneka Thompson is in critical condition but expected to survive. Let’s all keep one thing in mind, this man was not part of the Eric Garner movement. Let’s not forget his first victim was a black woman. Black Lives Matter, including those of black women.
